Sheila sez "HOWDY"
We are getting ready for fall and the cold winter ahead of us!
It’s been a different year for all of us involved in the love of folk art.
We realize that the economy has played a large part in all of our lives this year. We know our artists are feeling the pinch. We heard of shows being down, attendance being down and the costs of attending those shows still up and in some cases the hotel and gas fees above last year! That being said…..
We had a great show in Atlanta despite having truck troubles ourselves but we were determined to get there and exhibit our artists. The show was “Out-Of-This-World” this year. There were a lot of new exhibitors....BUT....it was a show of GREAT artwork. It was one of the best we have ever attended.
A large line of people began to show up about an hour before the opening. Folk Art collectors came charging through the gate and we were surprized by some friends showing up that we never expected to see in Atlanta. The Friday crowd seemed larger.... and remained steady through-out the week-end.
We were thrilled to see so many of our artist friends representing their art in the other galleries. We also met and got acquainted with many new artists and collectors.
Of course, we had a tremendous time and enjoyed ourselves beyond our widlest dreams. My personal highlight was Sunday morning when, Bebo and his dad Fred played their guitars and Missionary Mary and I joined in singing inspirational gospel songs with them. I wish I had a video of Mary’s solo. WHAT A VOICE! (Check the pictures of FOLK FEST 2008)
You never know what is going to happen at the shows. Each has a unique life experience. That is why I encourage you to get out to these shows when you can. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT!
Make plans to attend at least one show next year! If Atlanta is too far away from you, check out Chatanooga or Morehead or even the smaller shows that pop up! We’ll try to list as many as we can find to help you out! Have a great winter, as they used to say at WKRP in Cincinnati “THINK OF US ONCE IN A WHILE”
